BYD has officially unveiled the Sealion 08 Electric SUV in China, expanding its Ocean series with a new full-size flagship electric SUV that pushes further into the premium EV space.
In terms of design, the Sealion 08 continues BYD’s “Marine Aesthetics” philosophy. It features sleek, elongated headlamps, smooth flowing surfaces, and a clean aerodynamic silhouette.
The SUV carries substantial proportions, measuring 5,115 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, along with a 3,030 mm wheelbase. This places it firmly in the full-size SUV category, slightly shorter than the Mercedes-Benz GLS, but still offering a strong road presence.
Inside, the Sealion 08 will be available in both five-seat and six-seat configurations, catering to different family and premium mobility needs. The cabin is expected to follow BYD’s modern digital-first approach, with a focus on space, comfort, and high-tech features.
The Sealion 08 also brings a significant upgrade in ride and handling technology. It is equipped with a dual-chamber air suspension system and rear-wheel steering, aimed at improving both comfort and maneuverability despite its large size.

Additionally, it supports BYD’s latest fast-charging technology, enabled by the second-generation Blade battery system, allowing extremely rapid charging times that significantly reduce downtime on long journeys.
In terms of performance, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup produces a combined output of 480 kW (around 643 hp), enabling the Sealion 08 to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in approximately five seconds.
While the battery capacity has not been officially disclosed, BYD claims a driving range of up to 900 km under the CLTC cycle, positioning it among the longest-range electric SUVs in its segment.
For context, BYD already offers the Sealion 7 in the Nepalese market, strengthening its presence in the mid-size electric SUV segment locally.
With the introduction of the Sealion 08 globally, the lineup now expands upward, potentially signaling future premium EV offerings for markets like Nepal as BYD continues to build a more layered SUV portfolio.
